I didn't know I love Poetry

I just came to a realization that I love poetry. Not psycho babble and incoherent ramblings, but actual emotion set to words.

Dictionary.com says that poetry is: the art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative, or elevated thoughts.
Easton's 1897 Bible Dictionary describes it this way: Poetry has been well defined as "the measured language of emotion."

By these definitions, I believe that writers for movies and tv shows as well as lyricists are poets. I would like to share some examples of the poetry that I have been moved by in the last few months.

Dialogue from Music and Lyrics probably by Marc Lawrence
Alex Fletcher: It doesn't have to be perfect. Just spit it out. They're just lyrics.
Sophie Fisher: "Just lyrics"?
Alex Fletcher: Lyrics are important. They're just not as important as melody.
Sophie Fisher: I really don't think you get it.
Alex Fletcher: Oh. You look angry. Click your pen.
Sophie Fisher: A melody is like seeing someone for the first time. The physical attraction. But then, as you get to know the person, that's the lyrics. Their story. Who they are underneath. It's the combination of the two that makes it magical.

Don't Write Me Off- Music and Lyrics by Adam Schlesinger
It's never been easy for me
To find words to go along with a melody
But this time there's actually something on my mind
So please forgive these few brief awkward lines
Ever since I met you my life is changed
It's more than just my furniture you've rearranged
I was living in the past
But somehow you've brought me back
And I haven't felt this way
Since before Frankie said "Relax"
And though I know
Based on my track record
I might not seem like the safest bet
All I'm asking you
Is don't write me off just yet
For years I've been telling myself the same old stories
That I was happy to live off my so-called former glories
But you've given me a reason
To take another chance
Now I need you
Despite the fact that you've killed all my plants
And though I know
I've already blown more chances
Than anyone should ever get
All I'm asking you
Is don't write me off just yet

Happy Working Song- Enchanted by Alan menken and Steven schwartz

Come my little friends as we all sing a happy little working song
Merry little voices clear and strong
Come and roll your sleeves up - so to speak - and pitch in
Cleaning crud up in the kitchen as we sing along
Trill a cheery tune in the tub as we scrub a stubborn mildew stain
Pluck a hairball from the shower drain to that gay refrain of a happy working song
We'll keep singing without fail - otherwise we'd spoil it
Hosing down the garbage pail and scrubbing up the toilet - ooh!
How we enjoy letting loose with a little "la da dum dum dum!
While we're emptying the vacuum up it's such fun to hum a happy working song - ooh! -
A happy working song
Oh how strange a place to be
'till Edward comes for me, my heart is sighing
Still, as long as I am here I guess a new experience could be worth trying
Hey! Keep drying!
You can do a lot when you've got such a happy working tune to hum
While you're sponging up the soapy scum
We adore each filthy chore that we determine
So friends, even though you're vermin, we're all happy working throng
Singing as we fetch the detergent box for the smelly shirts and the stinky socks
Sing along
If you can not sing then hum along
As we're finishing our happy working song!

Quote at the end of Meet The Robinsons
AROUND HERE, HOWEVER, WE DON’T
LOOK BACKWARDS FOR VERY LONG.

WE KEEP MOVING FORWARD, OPENING UP NEW DOORS AND
DOING NEW THINGS, BECAUSE WE’RE CURIOUS…
AND CURIOSITY KEEPS LEADING US DOWN NEW PATHS.

WALT DISNEY

Little Wonders- Rob Thomas as written for Meet the Robinsons
our lives are made
in these small hours
these little wonders,
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away,
but these small hours,
these small hours still remain

The Heart of Life is Good- John Mayer
You know it's nothing new
Bad news never had good timing
But then the circle of your firends
Will defend the silver lining

Pain throws your heart to the ground
Love turns the whole thing around
No, it won't all go the way, it should
But I know the heart of life is good

Hate Me- Blue October
And with a sad heart I say bye to you and wave
Kicking shadows on the street for every mistake that I have made

I will say more about this later.
